  1. What do you think about the idea of "no religion" (TED talk) - valid?? The idea of "no religion" does not seem impossible, the resin for this is that religion is at times very hard to believe and even harder to follow. There is always going to be doubt because religion is impossible to explain. However, that doubt shows that religion is a human action, which I think preserves the validity of religion.
  2. How central is the creation of Israel to the hatred from Arabs/Islamic societies toward the West? Is it jealousy over the West's influence on their economies? The creation of Israel was important because it showed how the west has the power to influence the middle east. With that said, I do not think the hatred is out of jealousy, the Arabs and Islamic societies had their tame as the worlds most advanced and developed, but that was many years ago. I do not think jealousy is the word I would use, to me it seems that their pride gets in the way also religious differences as well have caused controversy.
  3. (TED talk - Doubt is essential to faith) Why do you think the shift occurred within the Muslim society over the initial doubt that Muhammad felt at first? At first when they heard this doubt, they were okay with it, we know this because they kept record of this in the early writings of Islam. However, they soon wished to cut this doubt out because they feared it would take away from the validity of the religion and it would lose support.
  4. (Religion/Trick Question TED Talk) How the bias of the information presented to us create/influence our thoughts on religion(s)? How something is told to use greatly impacts our views on that subject. Simply, growing up I lived in a Christian household so I was exposed to Christianity in a positive light, this is the reason for my positive views about Christianity to this day.
  5. How does that [ex: Jesus mentioned multiple times in the Qur'an] ["People of the Book"] play into the tension between Islam/Christianity/Judaism? In a sense it does increase the tension between these two religions. In all three religions Jesus is mentioned, this increases the tension because the differences between the two religions is the impact or importance of Jesus in these religions.
  6. How do you feel about the issue of the role of women in other faiths? (Christianity) In any society women seem to be treated as lesser than men, this is because of multiple reasons. In places other than the USA, it seems wrong because this gender disparity is caused because of religion. This is a problem because no one is going to challenge religion... because of this, the gender disparity is going to continue for many years to come. It is very problematic.
  7. To what extent does language affect faith? (knowledge question suckas)role of language/interpretation of religious texts? Language has a huge impact on faith. S0pecifically in Islam because it is not permitted to translate the Quran into any language other than its original language. Also in other religions, since it is acceptable for holy texts to be translated, some important ideas or concepts may be misunderstood because of a rough translation. All these things impact ones faith.
  8. How should we do it? study of religion - in depth study of Islam: In order to gain an in depth understanding of Islam I think we should look at the history of Islam and the basic practices of Islam from a variety of sources that way we can learn about island from neutral perspective. Also, I would prefer if the notes were more structured that way the material was less vague and less open to interpretation.
